"Blue" Vernell Strickland's Obituary
Vernell Strickland 80 years young, of Immokalee Florida, known to all as "Blu" was called to Heaven December 30, 2013 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Strickland was born in Tattnall County, Georgia on November 13, 1933. She married her beloved husband Willie H. Strickland known to all as "Strick" February 1, 1953 in Waycross, Georgia and were married for almost 61 years.
Blue worked with Strick owning and operating two gas stations, the last one was Strick's Shell Gas Station in Immokalee for many years before retiring. She was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed going fishing with Strick.
Blue will be remembered for many great things, including her wounderful laugh, her outpouring of comfort and ease. Everyone always loved being around her, even if only for a short time, as she came into a room and the room became brighter. Blue's famous green eyes would light-up when she talked about her husband, children and grandchilred as Blue loved best being with - or even just talking about them.
She was very special and beautiful and will be missed greatly. Her loving smile and ability to leave permanent footprints in the hearts of the people she loved will never be forgotten.
"But those who wait on the Lord will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."
Blue is survived by her loving husband Willie H. Strickland "Strick", daughter Paula House (Ken), son W.H. Strickland (Dora) and (5) grandchildren; Jason House (Nicole), Justin Strickland (Holly), Gabby Strickland, Sebastian Strickland and Rebekah Strickland.Visitation and the Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with the service starting at 11:00 am wth Pastor Thom Street and Pastor Peggy Benson officiating. Burial will follow at the Baptist Cemetery, Immokalee, Florida.
