Ceacil K. Harrelson, 91 of Lake Placid, Florida passed into Heaven on February 4, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Auburndale, Florida.

Mr. Harrelson was born to Ben and Lannie Harrelson October 30, 1919 in Oak Landing, Pablo Beach, Duval County, Florida. Ceacil was preceded in death by his sisters; Vivian Mitchell and Louise Black Starling,and his parents.

He is survived by three nieces and two nephews: Cecilia Bates, Mary Lou (Byron) Hendry, Anita (Otis) Crapse, William (Novella) Mitchell, and Robert (Mary) Mitchell.

The Harrelson family moved to Immokalee, Florida around 1929 to join relatives Cajer Johnson and Matt Music Johnson in their business enterprises. Eventually, Ceacil's parents opened the local garage, barber shop, restaurant and filling station in Immokalee.

Ceacil attended school in Immokalee; the school house was a building with several small rooms. Children attended grades one thru nine in Immokalee, but were forced to board in Everglades or LaBelle to futher education. Ceacil attended high school in Everglades for one year, but later moved to Labelle, where he graduated from high school. Ceacil was 6'6" and played basketball during his high school years.

He spent much of his free time hunting. As long as Ceacil had completely filled the yard with firewood, he could do whatever he pleased, and he pleased to hunt and fish.

Ceacil made money as a youth; selling snakes, leading hunting parties, and selling frog legs. Ceacil farmed in Immokalee, worked as a roustabout in the oil industry, did a tour in the Army during WWII and eventually made his way to Las Vegas, where he worked for the U.S. Engineers. While in the West, he continued to have many hunting and fishing experiences.

After retirng, Ceacil moved home to South Florida. He lived in Immokalee for a few years, and then moved to Chokoloskee where he lived and fished until moving to Lake Placid in 2003 to live with his sister Louise. Ceacil moved to Southern Lifestyles ALF in the spring of 2008 and lived there until his death.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at The Baptist Cemetery in Immokalee at 2:30 PM with Pastor Byron Hendry officiating.
