Gelacio Cruz Herrera 59 of Immokalee passed away at home on June 8, 2017 after an arduous battle with ALS.

Gelacio was born on November 21,1957 in Guadalupito, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to father J. Jesus Cruz Castillo and mother Maria Guadalupe Herrera-Mendoza.

Gelacio immigrated to the United States in 1979 at the age of 22. He worked in agriculture his whole life. He married his beloved wife Rosa Erebia-Cruz in Andlusia, Alabama on January 26,1981. Gelacio enjoyed playing guitar, singing and playing cards as well as spending time with his family. Gelacio is survived by his wife Rosa Erebia-Cruz, 7 Sons: Gelacio Jr (Isela), Armando, Antonio, Jose, Alberto (Jordan), Miguel and Gerardo, 2 daughters: Laura Cruz-Garcia (Alfredo) and Anita, 5 granddaughters: Elizabeth, Crystal, Leslie, Melody and Jeannelle, 8 grandsons: Rigoberto, Alexander, Juan, Christian, Micah, Eduardo, Michael and Matthew, his mother Maria Guadalupe Herrera-Mendoza, 6 sisters: Martha Cruz-Hernandez (Pedro), Maria Socorro Cruz, Rosa Luisa Cruz, Delfa Antonia Cruz (Raul) Maria de Jesus Cruz (Alfredo) and Matilde Cruz (Lorenzo) 3 brothers: Bertino Cruz (Gelacia), Nicholas Cruz (Hermelinda) and Jose Guadalupe Cruz and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father J. Jesus Cruz Castillo and brother Martin Martinez.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Brister Funeral Home. The Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Tuesday June 13, 2017 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Lake Trafford Memorial Gardens.
