Lawrence Jackson Williams, II (Larry) 62 years old of Immokalee and most recently LaBelle passed away Sunday January 16th, 2011 with his two sons and three sisters at his bedside. Larry graduated from Immokalee High School (where he was best known as Mutt) in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967 and proudly served in Vietnam as a General Investigator and Customs Officer with the Military Police. Larry joined the Collier County Sheriff's Office in 1971 as a Deputy stationed in Everglades City. Larry was awarded Deputy Of The Year 2 consecutive years and received numerous other commendations during his tenure with this agency. In 1973 he joined the City of Miami Springs Police Department as a Road Patrol Officer & was later promoted to Detective. He was selected to be a part of the Miami Dade Organized Crime Vice Unit where it is said he was involved in more combat than he faced in Vietnam. In the 80's he and his wife Patsy relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah where he was employed by the state of Utah as a Workman's Compensation Fraud Investigator.

After retirement Larry wanted to return to his roots in South Florida to be close to his family and old friends. He did this recently by taking up residence in LaBelle. Larry is survived by two sons: Lawrence M. Williams (Lisa) of LaBelle & Steven M. Williams (Stephanie) of Texas, former wife Patricia (Patsy) of Utah, 7 grandchildren and 3 sisters: Priscilla (Tiny) Rhodes (Gene) of Okeechobee, Glenda Passmore of Immokalee and Deborah (Debi)Mitchell (Jim) of Indiana as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his partents; Lawrence J. Williams and Leola V. Williams of Immokalee, brother Howard J. Williams of Interlachen, FL and his sisters: Rosella A. Canova and Marilyn A. Steward both of Immokalee.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Immokalee with Pastor Thom Sweet officiating. The service will be followed by a luncheon in the reception hall, graciously provided by the matrons of the Church.

It is the request of the family that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association.
